About Shawn

I started this blog as a path to self-improvement to lead a more balanced, peaceful, healthy and all around happy life.  The path to self-improvement has lead to a much kinder path of self-awareness.

What I love most about blogging is the meaningful, inspiring connections I have made with other Mom’s throughout the world.

Two years ago I would sum up my life as one big rush:  always rushing from one moment to the next.  I was in a constant state of trying to “get ahead”  and in a constant state of “busyness”.

Through this realization, yoga, writing, greater self-awareness and receiving inspiration from others I am learning to be fully engaged in each moment which has brought about more joy, peace, calmness and gratitude.

10 things about me

Shawn Bradford

Shawn Bradford

1. I have three amazing, happy and healthy children.  My girls are 5 and 7 and my son is 3.  My ex husband and I are learning the ropes of co-parenting and trying our best to always make decisions based upon what is best for our precious children.

2. I have lived in Arizona for 13 years and yes, it does get very hot here in the summer and I LOVE it!

3.  I have an elementary education degree from NIU, but have worked in sales for 13 years.  I am so grateful to my sales career which has allowed much flexibility in raising my children.

4. I recently re-discovered my passion for writing when my mother brought me boxes upon boxes of writing I had done as a youth.  For the past 1o years I have collected cute notebooks and scribbled out idea after idea, but until now they had not made it to typed print.

5. Just now in my late 30’s am I starting to understand the importance of food for energy, less sugar, and healthy fats.  I am on a journey to feed myself and my family healthy food on a daily basis (and on a budget).

6. One of my goals is to engage my young children in fun, physical activities at least once per day.

7. I am a yoga lover, green smoothie junkie, and an inspiration seeker.  I love natural remedies, oils and am slightly obsessed with coconut oil and Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soaps.

8. I love coffee, meaningful conversations with my girlfriends, dancing with my kids, great music and gardening.

9.  This past year, after my divorce, I have simplified my life (smaller home, less bills, less stuff, less clutter, almost no commute, less stuff “to do” ) and the peace it has brought has been profound.

10.  Other things I love: the ocean, relaxing with my children, positive quotations, animals, spending time with my bestie and sisters, hot baths with yummy smelling salts, red wine, great food at local restaurants and finally finding the courage to write as an adult.

(…to being frugal, the beach, red wine, great food, smooth tequila and finding your inner writer)

  8. Hi Shawn, The more I read your posts the more I see myself. When I read this section (minus a few differences) I can totally relate to why you have found blogging and what you are trying to achieve for your family. So happy that we have connected!

  9. we have similar goals. I too need to think about reducing the coffee intake. and laugh, I love to make people laugh.

    • Thank you so much! :-). I’m enjoying your blog as well and look forward to exploring it further. 🙂 I need to write a post on this but I’ve actually done a really good job of cutting out coffee just in the past few weeks. I switched to Tea that is probably just as caffeinated but I drink a lot less of it.

  10. My rule was 2 glasses of iced coffee then switch to water.
I’ve been breaking my own rule the last few weeks.

  11. Yes true, but not an extra extra pick me up 😀 My husband laughed when I mentioned I only had 4 glasses then complained about not being tired for bed.

  12. I am totally following you now. 🙂 I LOVE a cup of strong coffee in the morning too. When we visited USA for our honeymoon, we noticed how everyone drinks their coffee Americano and that’s my favourite. Aussies love their milk here haha.

  13. Lovely blog, Shawn! I hope all is going well as you adjust to single parenting. Blessings!

    • Thank you Columba! Very happy to have connected with you. Yes, it’s an adjustment, but I am learning and growing. I’m really loving your blog and look forward to exploring it more. I have a feeling I’ll learn a lot from reading your blog. 🙂
